Javed Khan was born in Bhopal, Capital of Madhya Pradesh the largest state of India, a city enriched with Nawabi Traditions. His father (Late) Mohammed Yaqub Khan, a highly respected citizen, was the ace Criminal Lawyer of Madhya Pradesh. Javed did his schooling from Campion School Bhopal, founded by Father E.F. More, a renowned name in the Order of Society of Jesus, who earlier was the Principal of Campion School Bombay. Right from the start Javed showed his brilliance in every field, whether academics or sports or extra curricular activities. He topped the Merit List in both the High School and the Higher Secondary Board of Madhya Pradesh. To quote Father More from the School Leaving Certificate which he gave to Javed, he wrote "Javed never stood second in Class from Standard I upto XI. Javed was the School Captain in 1971 and the Troop Leader of Air Scouts, having qualified for the highest award, that of President Scout with 24 Proficiency Badges. He was the Chairman of the Interact Club. He took keen interest in extra curricular activities excelling in dramatics and elocution, having taken part in many, if not all, the Inter- School Competitions during the last three years. He played all the major games: Cricket, Football, Hockey, Basketball and Table tennis having won many Medals as Captain of the School Teams. He is a fine student, clever, hard-working and honest with leadership qualities". After school Javed joined the prestigious St. Xaviers College Bombay for his B. Sc. in Mathematics and Economics. While in his first month in college he was spotted by none other than the highly acclaimed director Shyam Benegal who at that time headed an Ad-Film concern. So Javed did his first ad-film for Shyam, the product being Colgate Toothpaste. Then followed a ring of assignments, from Gold Spot to Bombay Dyeing, Arvind Mills, Nescafe etc. with some top names in the advertisement world such as Ismail Merchant, Zafar Hai, Pradeep Kakkad, Kailash Surendranath and Agencies like Lintas, H.T.A. , Frank Simoes, Bensons, Chaitra, Trio Films, Everest etc. While all this was happening Javed was auditioned and selected by Jeannie Naoroji and Hilla Sethna, the stalwarts of Fashion Show Modeling. So in his teens Javed was trained in the nuances of Live Modeling by the great Jeannie, a taskmaster, but a wizard of her craft, who left no stone unturned to get the best from her models. Javed made a spectacular entry in the Fashion Show world, the occasion, the grand opening of the Oberoi Sheraton in Bombay and he had as his co-models, names who were already internationally famous, such as Shai, Sheela Jones, Salome, Kavita Bhambani etc.
After that there was no looking back for Javed as his fame as a model spread. With all this he was also busy with the activities of his college. He was the Secretary of the Natya Mandal and the Sangeet Mandal and was representing his College in various Competitions where he was acting and directing plays, organizing shows and contest, and winning many prizes. He also wrote some scripts for ad-films for his friends in the Ad. World. But came graduation and Javed was faced with a tough choice, should he pursue an academic career, ( plans had been made to go to the U.S.A. to do his Management ) or to listen to the glamour call of the Bombay Film Industry as some producers were already sending feelers. Javed made his choice, he joined the Film and Television Institute of India Pune, and as always went through his stint with flying colours. He was the holder of The Gurudutt Scholarship for the Best Student and the F.T.I.I. Scholarship for the Most Outstanding Student (Equivalent to the Gold Medal),which is quite an achievement if you consider the fact that he had Om Puri, Suresh Oberoi, Satish Shah,Shashi Ranjan, Rakesh Bedi etc. as his classmates. As a practice Producers use to visit the Institute looking for fresh talent, which is how Javed signed his films while still at the F.T.I.I. Back to Bombay and Javed was raring to go ahead, it was then that he joined hands with Reliance, a new company with the zeal to advertise, and what followed the ONLY VIMAL campaign is now history. Vimal gave Javed tremendous exposure and catapulted him to the No. 1 position. Though not under any exclusive contract with Vimal, Javed stuck his loyalties with Vimal and refused other mega campaigns. The fashion show scene was hot, Vimla Patil, Salome and Nazir Mitha, Shanti and Sangeeta Chopra were all doing circuit shows for Femina, Eves Weekly, S. Kumars, Vimal. Bombay Dyeing etc. with one common factor in all shows, yes you guessed right, Javed Khan. Ther was a time when perhaps no major show was done without him. He was also winning titles like Best Model , by a unique voting system where the audience choose the model, this was when he had Anna Bredmeyer, Kalpana Iyer, Sangeeta Bijlani, Kimi Katkar, Sonu Walia, Aarti Gupta etc. as his co-models.It was now that Javed launched his own concern IMAGES - The Ultimate Impact, making ad-films and organizing shows.Television was an upcoming media and glamour boy Javed was called to compere the first Talent Showcase programme on Doordarshan titled Navrang, which he did successfully for a long time. The pressure from his Feature Films was enormous and everything was laid low. His first film Apradhi Kaun created a sensation by collecting 100% at the Box Office in the 1st week, which was unheard of in Bollywood for a small budget film. Javed won the Most Promising Newcomer of the Year Award for Apradhi Kaun, also other awards and felicitations from Critics, Film Journalists, Clubs and Fan Clubs. Then came Chambal ke Daku with real dreaded dacoits Madho Singh and Mohar Singh playing themselves, an unparalleled achievement in the history of Cinema. The Madhya Pradesh Journalist Association honored him with the prestigious award of 'FILM RATNA'. Cheekh, Qatil aur Aashiq, Khooni Mahal, Ram ki Ganga, Paanch Fauladi, Kafan, Ghar aakhir ghar hai, Aaj ka M.L.A.,Kabrastan are some of the 40 films Javed has done as a leading man.He was seen in a special appearance in Rani Mukherji's first film Raja ki Aayegi Baraat. Also in the process he got a chance to do what he likes, shows and traveling, not fashion shows this time but Entertainment Extravaganzas which took him all over the world and added to his already vast experience of show business. On the film scene Javed besides being a star was involved in all the aspects of film making, from scripting to direction to editing and also sometimes helping out in the production. His inspiration in this regard was the great showman, a senior from the FTII, Mr. Subhash Ghai, who had started out as an actor but soon became an intelligent and proficient Director/Producer.
When Television came in a big way Javed got his share too. He played Tej Singh, the central character in the biggest blockbuster on Indian T.V., Chandrakanta, which made him a household name. Yug, Betaal Pachisi, Zee Horror Show. Nagin, Fasana, Gaatha, Mein Delli Hoon, Ramayan, Aurat teri yehi kahani, The Trap etc. followed. Javed enjoys a highly respectable position amongst the T.V. artiste. He has worked with the best technicians and artistes and has a good rapport with everyone. He played the powerful character of Maharaja Puru in the just concluded serial Shakuntala on Star.
Another major achievement in his life is the playschool/nursery TODDLERS PARADISE which he and his wife have been successfully running from the past six years in andheri west Mumbai. It has earned the reputation of being the best nursery in the area. This also gives him a platform to do something for the mentally retarded and disabled children which is a passion with Mr. & Mrs. Javed Khan.
The strong bond with his birthplace has made Javed start making a base in Bhopal. He is the President of SCUD, Society for Children who are Underdeveloped and Disabled, which is now a registered society in M.P. He has launched the already famous BOMBAY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL in Bhopal and plan to emulate his alma mater Campion School.
